Imagination

There is nothing like the imagination. It's your best possession. With the imagination, you can go any place you want. The purpose of the imagination is to feed yourself with happiness. There are plenty of things on earth to derive pleasure from. But those things are not always at your disposal. That's where the imagination comes in.

Your imagination is secret.

Don't be afraid to use your imagination. There is nothing foolish about it. You don't have to be self-conscious; nobody is watching. You could be standing on line in the post office, thinking about a magical land, with magical creatures, for instance, and no one would notice. Your imagination is secret.

Be creative.

Let your creativity run. Think on the thoughts that will bring you the greatest happiness. It doesn't matter if they are true or not. Doesn't matter if they are realistic or not. If they make you truly happy, think on them. Your emotions will always respond to whatever you're thinking about. That's what makes the imagination such a powerful tool.

Examples of imaginations:

Running at sixty miles per hour.

Traveling twenty years back in time and revisiting an old neighborhood.

Swimming in a one square mile swimming pool supervised by many lifeguards.

A floating city on top of a large cloud, a mile above the deserts in Africa.

Airline service which can get you from New York to London in fifteen minutes.

No limits.

There are truly no limits to what the imagination can bring. Let your imagination soar. You've done it plenty of times, especially in childhood. If you work hard enough at it, you will obtain that same sense of freedom as in childhood. Remember, there are no limits.

Imagination is an art. You don't need paintbrushes, you don't need a canvas. All you need is your mind. Whatever you think about is your masterpiece. When you think, you are creating things. They are not visible things, they are only thoughts, but they are still things. Just because they cannot be seen doesn't mean they have no power. When you think, you create. Sri Chinmoy once said, "Imagination is not wishful thinking; it is not a baseless reality. Imagination is reality itself in another world."

Imagination is something. If imagination were nothing, then it wouldn't have a name, and no one would ever talk about it. When you imagine, you create. Imagination is definitely constructive work. Next to forgiveness, imagination is the most important work.

All great things came from imagination. All the accomplishments of athletes, rocket scientists and medical doctors started with imagination. Remember what Sri Chinmoy said: "Imagination is reality itself in another world." When you consistently imagine something enough, you will be inspired to do certain things that will lead you to that imagination.

If you are in a rough situation in life, and things don't look good, use your imagination, and think about what would be good. Sometimes, that's the only thing you can do. Happiness is on the inside anyway, not on the outside. Learn to harness the power of imagination. That's where all great things begin.
