Mind YOUR Own Business

The question arises, "The people that died in such and such disaster, did they perish because they were nonbelievers? Did they die because they were sinners?" Many people try to answer these questions. Jesus had an answer:

Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
[Luke 13:4-5]

In other words, Jesus was saying the victims in disasters are not sinners above others. He says nothing more about them, and goes on to place the focus on you, and admonishes you to be in a constant repentive state of mind. He is indicating that you should not worry about why such and such happened to others, and instead pay attention to what you must do. Jesus commands us to repent, which means to have an ambition to think the most positive thoughts at all times. Positive thoughts lead to positive actions.

Don't try to figure out why things happen. Don't try to formulate an explanation for everything.

Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
[Proverbs 3:7]

Mind your own business.

And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;
[I Thessalonians 4:11]

The Bible was written for YOU. Not for your friends, not for your family, not for your neighbors. It was written for YOU. Pretend you found it while walking along the sand. Pretend no one else knows about it. It's a rare treasure. When the Bible tells you to have faith, for example, it is telling YOU, not someone else. Here's an example:

Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
[Matthew 17:19-20]

"YOUR unbelief." Not someone else's unbelief. If you didn't get that promotion, it's not because someone else doubted, it's because YOU doubted. Everybody has a right to their own conclusions. But what do YOU say? If the doctor says you have terminal cancer, that's his prognosis. The question is, what is YOUR prognosis? The doctor's job is to use his extensive medical knowledge to arrive to a diagnosis. YOUR job is to get better.

This world is full of distractions, one after another. Keep your mind simple, don't clutter it up with the issues of the world. Don't let the thoughts of the world become your thoughts. God didn't give you their minds, He gave you YOUR mind.

Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
[Proverbs 4:25]

Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.
[Psalms 119:37]
